Buying Diamond Rings

Rings with diamonds for engagements, weddings, anniversaries or other occasions.

Diamond Settings

Diamonds rings come in a variety of settings which ultimately affects the ring's design and appearance as well as the level of security for your diamond or diamonds. The more metal used to hold the diamonds, the more secure they are; the less metal used, the greater the chance for the diamond to reflect light. For this reason, platinum is often the metal of choice for diamond solitaires.

Prong settings puts the most emphasis on the diamonds and not the metal. A bezel diamond setting is a collar of precious metal that wraps around the diamond. A half bezel is when the metal is 'split' into two sections, arcing around just part of the diamond, a more modern look. Channel setting is also used to set round diamonds offering a sleek, elegant appearance. When the surface of a ring appears to be covered with tiny diamonds, the technique is called Pavé which means paved.

When you shop online for a diamond ring, you should be thinking about your hand shape and your personal sense of style. Part of that sense of style centers around the way you plan to wear the ring.

Diamond Engagement Rings

The most traditional style of diamond engagement rings is the diamond solitaire, with one diamond set in a prong setting. Also popular are rings with a center diamond of any shape of choice with either smaller diamonds or coloured gemstones on either side for accent.

Here is a practicality checklist for your diamond engagement ring:

  • Practicality to suit your lifestyle - a high setting diamond engagement ring will catch on things and scratch.
  • Withstand constant everyday wear - heavier settings are more suitable for harsher daily exposure.
  • Secure settings of diamonds & gemstones -  prongs are stronger than 4, bezel is stronger than prongs and a lower setting is less likely to be damaged than a higher setting

Diamond Wedding Rings

Mens WEdding Ring You can add a bit of sparkle to your wedding band with diamonds, for both men and women's wedding rings, in yellow gold, white gold or platinum. For women the most popular design is a row of diamonds in either channel or pavé settings.  Usually you can buy a matching wedding set which includes a diamond engagement ring and a wedding band that will fit perfectly to the shape of the specific shape of the engagement ring.

Ladies Wedding RingChannel settings protects the diamonds extremely well with none of the edges being exposed, and so they are not subject to hard knocks or general wear and tear.
