Prong / Claw Diamond Ring Setting
Here is a picture of a prong / claw diamond ring setting
A prong or claw diamond ring is a diamond ring fashioned in such a way that the diamond is held in place by claws or prongs as follows:

As the image illustrated there is very little metal around the diamond which allows a lot of light to enter the diamond unobstructed (compared to say a Bezel diamond ring setting). This is the benefit of a prong or claw diamond ring setting.
A prong or claw diamond ring setting is slightly less safe than a Bexel diamond ring setting as it is possible to catch the claws or prongs on items such as woolly clothing which can cause the diamond to become loose in the setting, which can ultimately lead to loss of the diamond.
