Buying ‘cheap’ diamonds can prove expensive!

Always compare apples with apples – if it seems too cheap it could prove expensive.

Traditionally people looked to the four C’s of cut, colour, clarity and carat weight to determine a diamonds value. However there are at least two additional ‘C’s’ which also have an impact on a diamonds value, ‘certificate’ and ‘confidence

There are certificates and there are certificates. Not all certificates are born equal, and some are better respected by the international diamond fraternity than others.

Confidence in the person selling you the diamond is also an extremely important factor. Usually if something seams to cheap there is a reason.

During the diamond purchase process, always make sure you are comparing apples with apples. At the very least make sure you compare all the six C’s across all the options available to you.

Finally once you feel you have a little more confidence consider gaining some understanding of the terms which appear on most respected certificates, like for example ‘cut’, ‘symmetry’, ‘table’, and ‘depth’ and so on.
